Here’s a short post looking at four of the more useful FREE websites that are out there to gain some more insight into the art of Editing. Inside the EditThe mechanics of editing are easy to pick up, press this button and the application does that. Editing isn’t about the mechanics or else we’d all be expert editors, no, it’s about knowing how to present content to people and knowing where to cut and when. As Paddy Bird puts it... "Editing is a state of mind." It is the role of this online course to introduce you to that mind set and take you beyond the editing application and into the art of narrative and story. OK so this isn’t 100% free but then who would give this quality of knowledge away for free? We’ll you can have a little of it gratis. With the release of Avid Media Composer First, their free Media Composer application, Avid have teamed up with Inside the Edit and have released a mini class for users wanting to get to grips with the art of editing, complete with downloadable material, and all for free. So I recommend you start here and if you like what you see, and who wouldn’t, then subscribe and immerse yourself into the art of editing. https://insidetheedit.com/mcf/tutorials/ Lessons from the scriptEvery film starts with a script and great films tend to have great film writers. Michael Tuckerla’s YouTube channel takes you down the path of explaining the power of the script and what makes for a great script as well as how this is translated into the visual too! Simply watch the Dark Knight episode and you’ll understand. There’s some invaluable insight here.
