what do I need?
To use our course all you need is an internet connection. But sadly there's no getting away from the fact that you will need some equipment to get the best from this course.
However, we have deigned the course with only the simplest of tools in mind so that almost anyone with a home computer and a smart phone can get the most from the course.
Download our list of suggested equipment here.

DesignThe basics for writing a script and drawing a story board is simply a pencil and a note pad. However, as romantic as the idea is, the process of making a script can be made infinity easier by the use of simple word processing software.
Free ones are available! Resources
Libre Office

ShootSome of the latest smart phones can shoot in Ultra High Definition, but to be honest we like to stick with good old fashioned High Definition material in either 1080 or 720. In some of our examples we used old phones we no longer use as they can still shoot in HD!

"I did this course with nothing but a mobile phone and an old PC with a Windows Movie Maker. But I became so inspired I've now bought a DSLR and a computer dedicated to video editing."
- Henry Marshall
what we used
To allow for a greater number of students to use this course, we went ahead and used some easily sourced,
and in some cases free, hardware and software. While high end kit is desirable, it is not always essential
and when learning about the basics, can also be complicated to master and understand.

DesignWe used an old 2007 version of Microsoft Office and found we used Word and Power Point A LOT.
You can use Power Point for so many things such as story boards and the like! |
ShootWe used a combination of old Smart phones such as a HTC Windows 7 phone and shot in 720P. We also used some of the cheaper Canon DSLRs (700D & 1200D) and iPhones as well.
|
EditWe have made most of our edits with Premiere and Movie Maker just to mix it up a little. But any NLE is fine for this course. You could use Premiere, FCPX or Media Composer for true high end editing.
